The Camping Delfino has been working on humanitarian aid since 28 years creating a small ngo called Delfino Lanka. First with the tribe of the Wanniyala-aetto, the Indigeneous People of Sri Lanka, even known as Vedda, where between 1990 and 1992 held a survey on Tubercolosis, eradicating it completely from the main town Dambana and the close villages. Than, from 1990 till 200, Delfino Lanka created a school of preservation of indigenous culture and medicine, targeting as well aids to various local families living in great poverty, as the logistic and pratic organization in 1996 of the heart operation of Dhilani, a 12 years old girl badly affected from heart disease and in 2003 Kiriya, a young man son of the local chief. Our Ngo was as well the first organisation to be present just after 48 hours from the Tsunami disaster (documented on the movie S.M.S. Sri Lanka My Sri Lanka by Alessandro Acito with Umberto Airaudi and Maurizio Cardillo) organizing the distribution of the aid of the Camping guests in order to give immediate relief and indipendence autonomy from queueing hours for a dish of rice. Than, at the explosion of the worst part of the civil war, we rebuilded Koththiyapullai School run by Ramesh Kalaichelvan, now general secretary of the Ngo, that was badly bombed by rpg rockets. The shool was repaired and repainted and in 2010 the most important effort, the construction of a big water well and a tank to donate drinking and clean water tov eight school and 2590 students, as well as another 2696 inhabitants of the neighbouring villages for a total of 5286 people to tap of the precious good. Another water well has been build in 2012 in the remote village of Akkarane in order to satisfy the need of clean water of 247 families and 1482 people in the jungles inhabitated by the Verdas, the Tamil Veddas victim of the cruel war that devastated the country for more than 30 years. Many of these stories can be even read in the book “ La Lacrima dei Vedda”, The Veddas Tear by the writer Andrea Rigante, issued short ago ( January 2018) that can be bought at the Reception, where Camping Delfino is mentioned right for the many aid donated towards those poor, far away fascinating lands. One third of the book royalties will serve to create a new project, a didactid vegetable and fruit garden for self maintenance in a new remote school of Indigenous children.
